St. Jane Family Promise

Welcome back from lockdowns and live streaming – now is the time to get yourself active and volunteer!

Family Promise has several openings available for this week’s hosting

Given the turnover of those who have died, moved on, or moved in, resettled – our Parish is undergoing that natural transition that happens in Parishes every several decades. Many may not know what Family Promise is all about.

Twice a year we host families through St. Tammany Family Promise, our local sector of a national effort to help the silent homeless. At any given time in St. Tammany civil parish, there are 40 or more families living in their cars in the woods, or in parking lots – civil leaders and school teachers note and try to help as they can also.

Many families are only a few paychecks away from homelessness, and St. Jane Parish a part of the larger effort to help those families in need. Family Promise works in line (unofficially) with the teachings of St. Vincent de Paul, a mentor and spiritual director of St Jane de Chantal, who called her the holiest woman he had ever known. St. Vincent de Paul set up societies to help those in need to get into better circumstances in life; through education, spiritual example, financial aid when necessary, and through friendship, acceptance, and a welcoming spirit.

Visit our Family Promise page to learn more, and to be proactive in our charitable efforts to help those most in need.
